Racing is all about control.
But building a race car can make you lose it! First you put together the car, then, you have to paint it. And
taking a track car to the paint shop can be a pain. First, it takes time, then, you have to explain what you need to
people who are more used to fixing collision repair, not working with your cars special needs. Then, more often than
not, the car is not finished when promised, and when it finally is done, the work is not what you want.
We didn't like that either, so we have our own paint shop. Now you have full control over the process, and the people
who do the finishing know race cars. We know how to paint them, how to select finishes that last, how to work with
fiberglass and plastic, and how to fix race cars that need body repair.
Chris Hulkill heads the paint and body
operation. You've seen his work, because companies like Toyota, Lexus, Audi, and General Motors send him their show
cars and pace cars to get his personal touch. Chris recently painted the first DuraMax diesel truck that GM built,
and you will see the red white and blue flag motif very soon. Lexus also had us paint their SC 430 pace car for them.
You can see that car leading the field in CART races. And, as you can see by looking at the tubs in front of the paint
booth, Chris does work for CART cars too.
But, we have the most fun with customer cars. You can see what we mean in these pictures.
Not content with painting cars, Chris can also paint helmets to match the car, or any other design you and him can
dream up. To make the cars finish live in the brutal racing world, we can strategically apply custom cut clear tape
to the body, because rocks and off-track excursions happen. This tape was specially designed to cover the leading
edges of helicopter rotor blades, but Chris found a new use for it.
Having our own paint shop also means
that we can put a finish on smaller parts that otherwise would not get this level of attention.
And if our finishes stay alive on race cars, imagine how well they will work on your street car. Many have, and our
paint shop services a steady stream of street driven Porsches.
Visit us with your wishes, and see what we can do for you!
Not stopping yet. The graphics department is up next!
